Yesterday the seminar we were organizing together with USH ProBusiness took place. The theme of the seminar was “Demystifying the M&A transactions”, seminar addressed to the Romanian entrepreneurs who started to flirt with the idea of attracting an investor or selling their companies. A very pleasant surprise I had was to receive participation requests to this seminar not only from students of the Academy for Economic studies in Bucharest but also from high-school students, in the 11th grade. USH ProBusiness management was kind enough to accept the participation of the youngsters free of charge. I was delighted to accept them, more than curious about the high-school students’ intention. And I did ask the question, hoping deep down inside of me their participation was for a good reason and not a small excuse to just skip school. And the answer I received was simple and straightforward: it is expected from us to choose what we want to do in life and which University we should apply to, so we came here to see if we like this thing. I was proud, I must confess.

And there was another reason for me to be proud yesterday. My colleague Nicolas Pleșea and I managed to convince to join us as speakers two remarkable Romanian professionals in the field of M&A: Mrs. Ramona VOLCIUC-IONESCU, Partner, Head of Corporate / M&A and Energy within VOLCIUC-IONESCU law firm and Mr. Bogdan ILIESCU, a seasoned Investment banker with 20 years of expertise in the M&A market. Each of us knew the topic that they had to write about, but because of our busy schedule, we did not manage to talk to each other about what we wrote. And here comes the reason for my pride: each of us succeeded to make a presentation that harmonized perfectly with the others’ and that helped to augment the quality of the whole seminar. Each of us did our best, no trace of professional ego and….surprise…what a wonderful result, how well we complemented each other!

I was grateful about these discoveries, I trust our next generation (I was given today another argument to sustain my belief) and I really hope I will work soon with Ramona and Bogdan.
